Northwest Suburban Council High Adventure Support

The purpose of the Northwest Suburban Council High Adventure Support is to take some of the mystery out of planning a High Adventure trek. It is to be used by a troop to look at all of the options that exist and where to go to get more information on a particular activity. While this manual can not cover every possible activity, it will try to guide a troop in the right direction. It is meant to help both scouts and scout leaders thoroughly plan and complete a high adventure activity.

During a typical Troop PLC meeting, scouts typically tend to plan activities they have done in the past. This is where the Northwest Suburban High Adventure manual comes in. Challenge the scouts to look at the different activities they may want to try. Then following the process they can (with the help of the scout leaders) plan a new experience.

Planning

Decide on what activities you want to try. Depending on the amount of time, scouts and funds you have, review the resources available. It may be best to go to a state park and rent the proper equipment. If you want to combine activities look for an area where you can do both. For example, in northern Wisconsin you can whitewater raft in the morning at one location, then rock climb in the afternoon at another.
