Training Updates

What Makes a Trained Leader?

As of January 2012, the requirements for being considered a "Trained Leader" have been simplified. The primary change for every level of Scouting is that "Fast Start" and "This is Scouting" are no longer required to be considered "TRAINED". While these two courses are no longer on the required list, they remain available to all Scouters by going to the Online Learning Center at www.myscouting.org. At Northwest Suburban Council, we feel that these courses remain essential to new leaders, and we strongly encourage all new leaders to commit the relatively few minutes that it takes to listen to these introductory courses online. They really provide a great orientation to Scouting, and certainly will enhance your understanding of the Scouting program.

The other change in the requirements to be considered a "Trained" leader affects those Venturing Leaders that are working with Venturing Crews that have an outdoor program. Effective this year, these leaders are now required to take Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills to be considered "TRAINED".
