Venturing Venturing Advancement
Any Venturing Youth who has achieved the First Class rank as a Boy Scout in a troop or Varsity Scout in a team, may continue working toward the Star, Life and Eagle ranks up to his 18th birthday. He must meet the requirements as prescribed in the current Boy Scout Handbook .

Position of responsibility requirements may be met by the Venturing Youth serving as president, vice president, secretary or treasurer of his post, or as boatswain, boatswain's mate, yeoman, purser or storekeeper in his ship.

The Scoutmaster conference will be conducted by the Crew Advisor or Skipper.

As the Venturer meets the requirements for the Star and Life ranks, a board of review is conducted by the post or ship committee. The Eagle board of review folows the procedure established by the local council.

Sea Scouting is the only Venturing specialty that has its own advancement program. This program is outlined in the Sea Scout Manual.

Sea Scouting advancements are approved by the ship's quarterdeck. In the case of the Quartermaster Award, the application is reviewed by the ship's committee with a member of the district advancement committee as chairman. Since the Quartermaster is a Sea Scouting recognition, it may be earned by any young man or young woman registered as an Sea Scout up to his or her 21st birthday.

Venturing also has a new advancement program for Venturers both male and female to follow. It starts by earning one of five different Bronze awards. These are set up for each of the Venturing specialties: Sports, Youth Ministries, Arts and Hobbies, Outdoor, and Sea Scout. Any Venturer can complete any one or all five of the awards.

A Bronze Award recipient can begin working on the Gold Award, which emphasizes leadership skills and personal growth.

And a Gold Award recipient can complete the Silver Award by completing additional requirements including Emergency Preparedness, Leadership, and Ethics in Action.

In addition there is a separate award, the Ranger Award, which can be completed. It is estimated Ranger will take an individual about 18 months to complete and has both Core items that must be completed and Elective items to chose from to complete the award. The goal is to produce Scouts who are the ultimate outdoorsmen once they have received this award.
